Ask ten people their skin type and eight will answer with whatever they decided in high school. Skin changes with seasons, stress, hormones, and age, so the label you picked years ago is probably out of date. And since your skin type decides which cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen texture will work for you, guessing wrong means buying wrong.
Here's how to read what your skin is telling you right now.
The one-hour test
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat dry, and apply nothing. No toner, no moisturizer. Wait one hour, then look and touch.
- Tight, flaky, or uncomfortable everywhere? You're on the dry side. Your skin isn't producing enough oil to protect itself, so it needs richer textures and layered hydration.
- Shiny across your whole face? You're oily. Your skin produces more than enough oil, so lightweight gel textures will feel better and sit better than heavy creams.
- Shiny forehead and nose, but normal or tight cheeks? That's combination, and it's the most common answer. Your T-zone and your cheeks want slightly different things, which is why one-size products often disappoint you.
- Comfortable everywhere, no shine, no tightness? Congratulations, you're normal-to-balanced. Your job is maintenance, not correction.
Sensitive is a condition, not a type
Redness, stinging, or reactions to new products can show up on top of any skin type. That's why you'll see "sensitive" as its own filter in our shop: it flags the calming, fragrance-conscious products that are safe picks no matter which type you are. If that sounds like you, prioritize those formulas first and your skin type second. Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell what your skin likes and what it doesn't.
Why this matters more than any single product
A great serum in the wrong routine still underperforms. An average moisturizer matched correctly to your skin type will quietly outwork it. Skin type is the foundation every other choice sits on, which is exactly why it's the first thing our skin quiz asks about.
Skip the guesswork entirely
The one-hour test tells you your type. Our two-minute quiz goes further: it matches your skin type and your top concerns to a complete five-step routine where every product is verified to work with the others, morning and night.
